Within a 6-hour period, five lives are claimed by violent crashes on Florida Highways.
A 2005 Toyota 4Runner, Red 1989 Chevrolet Pick-Up Truck, 2011 White Cadillac, Black Pick-Up Truck, a concrete brick support and a tree, were all involved in accidents that claimed the lives of five.
The first fiery crash happened in North Broward and was called in around 1:00 a.m., Thursday morning on Interstate 75, involved two men who were killed in a head-on collision, when the driver of a 2005 Toyota 4Runner veered off the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Southwest 10th Street and struck a concrete bridge support, and burst into flames, both the driver and passenger, Raphael Goray, 39, of Coral Springs, were killed. The drivers’ identity had not yet been identified, according to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky.
Less than 15 minutes later, another call came into the 911 dispatcher. This time the caller told the operator that a truck was heading “South” in the “Northbound lanes” on Interstate 75 near Palm Boulevard in West Broward.” Minutes later, the red 1989 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Walter Webb, 45, of Zephyrhills, FL, slammed head-on into a white Cadillac driven by Marcos Goya, 37, of Lima, Peru, just south of the Sheridan Street overpass and burst into flames. There were no passengers in the two vehicles.
Yet another accident happened around 6:00 a.m., on Coral Way [the stretch of Coral Way where Sterk crashed, about 200 feet west of SW 17th Ave., is fairly straight, with a wide, lushly landscaped median] in Miami. Richard Sterk, 45, appeared to have been drinking when he lost control of his black pick-up truck and slammed into a tree, killing himself.
All three accident scenes are under active investigation.
